Press Statement by the Federation of Afghan Journalists in Exile

The Federation of Afghan Journalists in Exile considers the untimely death of Usman Akram (famously known as Usman Aqrab), a renowned journalist and satirist, a great loss for the Afghan media community. The Federation extends its condolences and sympathy to the late journalist’s family and prays for his forgiveness.
The late Akram dedicated many years to journalism. Through the founding of the satirical publication Zanbeel-e-Gham, he boldly addressed societal issues with sharp wit and criticism.
In addition to his work with Zanbeel-e-Gham, he also collaborated with Radio Salam Watandar for a period. His satirical pieces, particularly those related to the candidates of Afghanistan’s first presidential elections, remain vivid in the memories of Salam Watandar’s listeners.
Akram had been suffering from a severe form of cancer and was receiving treatment in a hospital in Pakistan, where he sadly passed away today.
The Federation of Afghan Journalists in Exile regards his passing as an irreparable loss to the Afghan media sector. It offers heartfelt condolences to both his family and the broader media community, praying for eternal peace for the deceased and strength for his loved ones.
