Mustafa Kamal is an Afghan correspondent, reporter and editor renowned for incisive field reporting and analytical writing on human rights, democracy, and social change. Over more than a decade he has produced investigative and frontline reporting, features and opinion pieces that document the lived realities of Afghan communities under conflict.
Kamal began his media career as a reporter for Payam Jawan Journal, working extensively on local reporting and human-rights issues. He has served as a corresponding author and freelance reporter for national and online outlets, and as editor at Afghanistan Today Weekly, where he shaped editorial coverage during a critical era for independent media. His articles and analyses have appeared in Hasht-e-Sobh Daily, Etilaatroz, Rah-e-Madaniat Weekly, Payam-e-Jawan Journal, and other respected platforms.
Parallel to his journalism, Kamal has been an active civil-society leader. As Executive Director of the Third Way Association (TWA), he led programs in youth leadership, women’s empowerment, peacebuilding, and civic education. He worked in partnership with organizations such as Afghanaid, The Liaison Office (TLO), and Mediothek Afghanistan to implement community-based human-rights and protection initiatives.
Kamal serves on the board of the Afghan Human Rights Defenders in Exile (AHRDE) and is an active member of the Afghan Human Rights Defenders Committee (AHRDC). Now in exile, he continues to document abuses, support displaced journalists, and defend freedom of expression—using journalism as a tool for accountability, dignity, and change.
