Distribution of 4.4 Million Pakistani Rupees by the Federation of Afghan Journalists in Exile in Cooperation with UNESCO
The Federation of Afghan Journalists in Exile (FAJE), as an independent body advocating for journalists’ rights, is proud to inform Afghan journalists, media organizations, national and international bodies that—following its continuous efforts and in close collaboration with the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ)—it has successfully provided urgent support to 80 Afghan journalists in exile in Pakistan.
As part of this support program, each journalist received a cash assistance of 55,000 Pakistani Rupees, bringing the total distribution amount to 4,400,000 PKR (four million and four hundred thousand). The purpose of this aid is to help ease the economic pressures, cover daily living expenses, and support the continuation of professional activities of Afghan journalists living in the difficult conditions of exile.
In addition to financial assistance, FAJE—backed by the aforementioned organizations—has arranged two separate guesthouses in Islamabad, designated specifically for male and female journalists. These safe spaces offer temporary accommodation where journalists can pursue their immigration processes in a calm environment, free from threats, and plan their professional futures.
This achievement is the result of tireless advocacy, persistent follow-ups, and genuine solidarity between FAJE and reputable international institutions. It serves as a clear indication that practical support for journalists in exile is a shared responsibility and an urgent necessity for safeguarding freedom of expression and the right to free access to information.
FAJE, while expressing sincere gratitude to IFJ, UNESCO, and PFUJ for their valuable support, reiterates its continued commitment to standing with Afghan journalists in exile. It will persist in expanding its support, addressing challenges, and defending press freedom at both national and international levels.
