Who We Are
The Federation of Afghan Journalists in Exile (FAJE) is an independent, non-governmental, non-political, and non-profit organisation founded in November 2022 by a group of Afghan journalists in Pakistan. FAJE’s mission is to support freedom of expression, defend migrant journalists, and document violations of media rights. FAJE operates in Pakistan, Iran, Turkey, and several European countries, organizing a network of journalists, representatives, and volunteers to provide practical, legal, and psychological support to journalists under threat. The federation, guided by the principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and international covenants, considers freedom of expression and access to information as fundamental rights and stands against censorship, repression, and forced exile of journalists.

Information is a universal right, not a privilege of the powerful. We believe that no authority should withhold the truth in exile. Every Afghan citizen deserves free, immediate, and uncensored access to the truth—a fundamental right to live with awareness and to build a brighter future with open eyes.
Our Mission
To uphold freedom of expression, protect the dignity of journalists, and stand by the truth—both in a wounded homeland and in exile. We are the voice of the silenced, the shield of words against oppression, and the collective conscience of a generation that never lays down the pen.
What We Do
- FAJE, relying on global press freedom principles, operates in the following key areas:
- Legal support and assistance, including follow-up on residency and migration cases for journalists under threat;
- Psychological, emergency, and livelihood support for homeless journalists and their families;
- Continuous advocacy at national and international levels through statements, meetings, and collaboration with human rights organizations;
- Accurate documentation of media freedom violations in Afghanistan and host countries;
- Capacity building and professional training in cooperation with reputable international organizations;
- Networking, solidarity building, and collective defense of Afghan journalists in exile.
