Federation of Afghan Journalists in Exile Condemns Armed Attack on Afghan Refugee Journalist in Islamabad

The Federation of Afghan Journalists in Exile expresses deep concern over the armed attack on Nasir Ahmad Behroz, an Afghan refugee journalist residing in Islamabad, Pakistan. The attack took place in the Bahara Kahu Bypass area.

Mr. Behroz was assaulted around 8:30 PM on August 25, 2024, while walking along the mentioned road. He was approached by two armed men on a motorcycle who physically attacked him and, while threatening him with a pistol, attempted to abduct him.

He reported that his loud calls for help drew the attention of passersby, some of whom rushed to his aid. The assailants, who had already taken his phone, fled the scene upon seeing others approaching.

Mr. Behroz stated that an eyewitness contacted Islamabad police via the emergency number 15. Officers arrived at the scene and questioned both him and witnesses. However, no progress has been made in the investigation so far.

The next day, August 26, he was summoned to the police station several times to provide more information. He also submitted a written complaint.

Though he survived the attack, the incident has left him and his family deeply worried, fearing that a similar attack might occur again.

The Federation of Afghan Journalists in Exile urges Pakistani security forces to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice. This incident marks the second armed attack on Afghan journalists in Islamabad this year. On April 4, journalist Anayesh was also targeted and severely injured by assailants.
