Statement by the Federation of Afghan Journalists in Exile

The Federation of Afghan Journalists in Exile expresses deep concern over the attempted assassination of Ramin Faqirzada, an Afghan journalist residing in Iran.

Faqirzada was targeted on August 31 of this year while working in a high-rise building. According to received information, a group of unknown individuals who had been threatening him with death for some time attacked him and threw him from the building before fleeing the scene.

As a result of the attack, Faqirzada sustained severe injuries and remains in critical condition.

He is a journalism graduate from Alberoni University and had worked as a journalist at Radio Voice of Peace in Parwan province. Following the fall of the republic and under Taliban threats, he was forced to flee the country and seek refuge in Iran.

Faqirzada is currently under close medical supervision, and the incident has been reported to the police.

The Federation calls on Iranian security authorities to thoroughly investigate this case and bring the perpetrators to justice.
